Food for thought

To coincide with Jane Green's Book 'The Love Verb' Penguin have made a booklet of recipe's available to download which not only raise awareness for Breast Cancer but are the perfect gift for Mother's Day.
After stopping her life to look after a friend diagnosed with stage four breast cancer,  Jane was inspired to write a novel about two sisters, one of which is diagnosed with breast cancer and the way in which it affects their lives and the lives of those around them. While she was looking after her friend she used to cook for her family each evening, and so at the end of each chapter is a recipe for one of her favourite meals. I am definitely inspired.

I just love the mixture of illustration and fashion in this shoot, the contrast of black and white works fantastically.

"The exhibition gathers together for the first time many of the greatest masterpieces of Victorian painting along with sculpture, design, furniture, architecture, fashion and literature. It includes iconic work by Burne-Jones, Whistler, Leighton, Rossetti, William Morris, Aubrey Beardsley and Oscar Wilde."

Pea-tastic!

If like me you are feeling the end of term 'I've been comfort eating to numb the pain of essays' podge then these cakes are the equivalent of fat free manna. Petit Pois cakes are half fat, gluten and lactose free, and instead of using butter, these girls have discovered the benefit of vegetables! Genius. What's more each of them are sold with a Petit Pois on top (just to reassure you that they are healthy) and what's not to love about peas. So when I next find myself anywhere near Selfridges I will certainly be having my cake and eating it!

Irish delights..

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Today, I am most certainly embracing the 1/4 of Irish blood that runs through me, and am desperately trying to get as much of my last essay done so I can hit the pub later this afternoon. These are some photos from a trip to Ireland that I took with some friends last summer. Enjoy!

Spring is definitely here, and despite the fact that is still deceptively chilly outside I am determined to shed the wool jumpers in favour of floaty tops and delicate pumps. I can't wait for sunny days, picnics, Pimms and the freedom to read something which is not on a reading list!
Top and Jeans - both Topshop
Nancy Mitford 'The Pursuit of Love'
{one of my all time favourites, Nancy is utterly fabulous}
Rattan Basket -  Summerill&Bishop
Tea Cups - Vintage Touch

I am reading...

This is especially fitting, considering that today is International Women's Day, but as I mentioned a while back, inspired by the wonderful lectures given by Patricia Waugh, I am doing a little feminist exploration. This wonderful snippet of Woolf is based upon a lecture that she gave at Girton College  Cambridge and is a pleasure to read. I spend a heck of a lot of my time puzzling over intricately worded articles and it is such a relief to find something which is more of a musing on matters than a analytic thesis. I've also started on  de Beauvoir's 'The Second Sex', which is slightly larger than I had anticipated and therefore may take a little longer to peruse... in the mean time I think I will be reading a lot more of Woolf!

Stationary heaven....

If like me you have a unhealthy love for stationary, letter press and vintage pastels then you'll love {Papermash}. It is my dream to own my own letter press, and I'm so annoyed that I did not make enough use of it during my art foundation at Bournemouth. Perhaps I'll go back to art school after uni and postpone the inevitable transition into adult life and jobhood. yes please.

Tuscan Memories...

While browsing through some old photo albums I found these from a trip to Tuscany in 2009 and thought they were deserving of an outing... They bring back wonderful memories of wandering through the streets of Sienna and Florence, surrounded by Medici history amidst the cool relief of wonderfully overpriced gelatarias.

Wednesday 2 March 2011

Finally after barrages of e-mails and letters, I've got work experience lined up at Transworld publishers (part of Random House) which I am very very excited about... They publish some of my favourite books by Joanne Harris and Sophie Kinsella (I grew up reading the Shopaholic series and the Undomestic Goddess is a favourite for when I'm not drowning in uni reading lists). My mother is also thrilled at prospect of Joanna Trollope! Having been through their collection of books I have found a few which sound brilliant and others which I have been meaning to read for ages! Here are a few of them - and also a few of my favourite covers - anyone who uses Rob Ryan for a cover has my vote any day!
