 Right, so I've been totally rubbish about blogging recently but to be fair in the last month or so I've finished my finals, graduated, been to Italy (twice), drunk ALOT of wine, eaten far too much, stripped down to my underwear at a formal dinner (it's tradition!?) and basically had the most incredible time celebrating the last of uni with my friends. I have now moved to London, joined the gym (we'll see how long that lasts...), have an internship starting next week and am trying to find a weekend job to fund my visits to Topshop (which are now, devastatingly, not cushioned by my student discount). Basically I'm faced with the slightly disturbing reality of having to grow up*....
I am, however going to try and do this a bit more regularly, so watch this space!

Yes, it's true, Tangerine Tango is the official Pantone color of 2012, but that doesn't mean it has to be my fave. Don't get me wrong, I love me some bright orange, and any fashionista that dares to pull it off. However, my adoration for sunny orange hues, has nothing against how obsessed I am with the new yellow fad.

 Mustard and marigold were all over the runways across the world for Spring 2012 RTW and it's one of the few colors whose palette can easily transition from Spring to Fall. 

 Marigold is one of my favorite hues for this spring and summer. It's perfect for any sundress or day at the park. Pair it with other pastels like baby blue and some summery wedges like the ones above, and you'll be set for any lazy summer day.

This spring and fall you're free to rock every shade of the yellow-rainbow. Whether you want to sport Hi-liter neon statement wedges or a chunky tribal necklace, yellow gives the perfect pop to any outfit and occasion. My favorites are the fringey, mustard earrings; they remind me of the color of all my grandmother's 1970's discount living room furniture.

....In a good way.

Weekend activities....

 

Major major love for the new Aspinal of London Molly Satchel (named after their new ambassador the GORGEOUS Molly King from the Saturdays - the one who went out with David Ghandi and is now rumoured to be preeeettty close to Prince Harry.... JEL MUCH). Also loving MissGuided at the moment (where the black dress above is from). Out this week in the cinema is the much awaited Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, featuring a fantastic British cast of Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristen Scott Thomas - looks incredible! 

Apologies for brevity and lack of content - currently drowning in essay and revision. Whoop!

David Hockney at the RA

The RA

One of the most talked about exhibitions of the year so far has been David Hockney’s “A Bigger Picture” at the RA. I have to admit, I haven’t ever paid much attention to Hockney, put off slightly by the school art departments almost religious rapture when it came to his work – I think he had been relegated to the pile of disliked artists such as Miro and Picasso (yes, I said it, I don’t like Picasso) but I have certainly seen his work in a new and more interesting light.

I love the impressionists, and you can definitely see the influence of these artists (especially Monet) in his work. Taking the themes of transience and repetition Hockney focuses on a certain scenes - mostly taken from the Yorkshire countryside - returning endlessly to the same point to capture the alterations of light throughout the seasons. His composition and perspective are insane and the sheer size the paintings contribute to the amazing sense of atmosphere that the exhibition creates.

One of the reasons it has got so many people talking is the series of ipad drawings – they are surprisingly good, though better viewed from a distance. Up close you can see that they are computer generated, but the tools the ipad offers definitely suits his style of work. Although there are certain paintings which would certainly remain in the 'dislike/Picasso category' I have definitely had to re-assess his overall categorisation and I look forward to seeing what he will come up with next.  The exhibition has unfortunately finished but there are some great videos and pictures available on the RA website.
