Lorenzo Aguis

I've just discovered the work of photographer Lorenzo Aguis, who is probably most well known for the images he took for the 1996 British classic 'Trainspotting'. A combination of both the A-list of Mario Testino and the English whimsicality of Tim Walker his work is both beautiful and humorous. LOVIN' IT.

A (slightly tenuous) Passage through India....

I'm currently writing an essay on Kipling's India fiction and the national boundaries within Empire (fascinating stuff ... no really it actually is, Kipling is a literary genius), but I was reminded of the amazing pictures of India taken by Norman Parkinson in 1956 for Vogue. I adore his work - its infused with such pre-war vision and an old school glamour that those who came after the war never quite managed to capture. If you want to see more of his work, there is currently an exhibition of his work at Bristol's M Shed, running until the 15th April. 

For those wanting to read about 'old school' India and the good old days of the British Raj, I would recommend Forster's A Passage to India or, for something perhaps a little lighter, Kipling's Plain Tales from the Hills.

Also in my brief moments of procrastination (ahem...) I came across Thakoon's new nail polish range for NARS, inspired by his Indian colours from his S/S 12 NYFW collection). Slightly tenuous link but they're too cute to ignore!! (Available from 1st May)

Some beautiful things....

Just over a week till the old dissertation is due so this is short and sweet. Just some lovely things that I've come across really! The illustration is one I did a while ago and the bag is the new Mulberry inspired by Lana Del Rey who is my current style obsession - see her shoot in the March Vogue for further confirmation of this! Home Sweet Home....

Have been away for the last month gallivanting around Nepal having the most incredible time (blog posts to follow!). I have to say though, it is nice to be home, to be reunited with my western comforts and to be able to drink tap water again! So much to catch up on - Downton Abbey is back, Gossip Girl and 90210 have started and my sister tells me there is a new Inside Natures Giant's Episode on the giant turtle (yes I'm a massive geeeek!). Here are a couple of nice things I came across while trying to make up for a month away from the internet!

Had the first BBQ of the year and that can only mean one thing.. .SUMMMMERRR. It's the only thing that is currently getting me through the swathes of revision and long days in the library. On the 26th May - summer begins and it better not be bloody raining!

Water for Elephants...

Saw the theatrical trailer for this when I went to the cinema yesterday - incredibly excited for this film's release in May. On another note, if you are planning to go and see Red Riding Hood. just don't. Directed by Catherine Hardwick, the name behind the twilight film saga, it recycles the same lust ridden tensions, the same brooding looks and seems unable to let go of the compulsion to shoot panoramic shots of conifer forests. It just doesn't work.  My friend Tilly and I were rather surprised that at some point during filming no one realised just quite how bad this film was going to be. Much as I love Amanda Seyfried this was the wrong side of clichéd line. Lets hope Water for Elephants is a tad better!
